DFO - COASTAL RESOURCE SURVEY

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) is currently updating their Community-Based Coastal Resource Inventory for Newfoundland. They are looking for participants from the Harbour Main-Chapel's Cove-Lakeview area to contribute information regarding marine-based resources, including traditional and current fishing areas and species, aquatic plant species, among other information.

Community-Based Coastal Resource Inventory (CCRI)

for the island of Newfoundland!

We are looking for individuals or organizations in the Northeast Coast, Trinity Bay/Conception Bay, Southeast Avalon/St. Mary’s Bay, Placenta Bay, and Fortune Bay area who are interested in participating.

The CCRI is an inventory of information regarding marine-based resources including traditional and current fishing areas and species (Groundfish, pelagic, marine mammals, shellfish), aquatic plant species, aquatic invasive species, as well as information regarding culture tourism, recreation areas, and activities, coastal infrastructure, and coastline classification.

This inventory is made from community member participation and is used for marine spatial planning (decision making), human use assessment, conflict avoidance, and resolution, environmental assessment, economic development, response planning (environmental emergencies), search and rescue planning and academic research.
